I was out in the garage today and found a part I got at a auction last fall and forgot about. It is a Right Hand Headlight surround for the 4 headlight style fenders, 57-59 300's and 57 all, 58 N/Y and Saratoga. If needed I can give you the part # on it. It is in excellent condition, appears to be cast aluminum. No cracks, dings- just like if you found one in 1960 in the wrecking yard. If some one in the club needs this they can have it for $10.00 plus shipping- offering to club members before I put it on Ebay. Thanks, Joe Pierce. I cannot find Frank's part #2521970 in my '65 parts book. If so, where on the car is it usually located? My '60 has a different one, which IS correct for that year. That one is on the passenger side of the backlight. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=60118823 3&r=0&t=0 Thanks in advance, Dave [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 06:14:49 -0700 From: "Marilyn James" <tudor40@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Valve covers Hi to all, Now I really feel stupid. I don't understand why you all can't guess what year my car is? Any way I am in need of one or a set of valve covers for a 1961G 413. One of these galleries had a funky looking rubber type sleeve in it - and the other didn't. The shop manual makes no mention of this curious part(s). Question is, are there supposed to be two of these - the other having deteriorated and ended up in the oil pan ??? Or is it a metter of there being an in and out gallery and only the "in" gallery takes this sleeve...? Also, who would you recommend for getting a good set of .030 pistons for this engine ? His reasoning behind this is that these valves allow unfiltered oil to pass through the engine. All his race motors, which is his main line of work, do not run this valve. But for my application, a street engine, I'm not convinced. If I don't run the valve, I gather all the oil will run back to the pan. So on start up after sitting for a while, it will rattle it's nut off until oil pressure is built back up. Am I right or wrong here? I've always been under the impression that most engine wear occurs on start up..... so leaving out this valve would make that even worse? Can someone set me straight on this? It looks like it's unfiltered oil versus no oil at all to me!! Thanks for the help.
