Hi to all,
The message below is self explanatory. There is a source for high speed
starters for '61 and earlier Mopars from Tim Wood @ Road Runner Starters. We
need to supply the OE part #s.
Can someone help with the right respective numbers for '55; '56-'58 and '59
thru '61 so that I may ask for price and availability for anyone who may be
interested.
Be best to post the part numbers and have this discussion on our server and
then I will contact Tim with one consolidated and verified message.
Owen Grigg recommended this contact. Thank you Owen!

Hi Tony, we manufacture a number of high performance starters to suit the
early Mopars.
There are 3 different starters that pre date the 62 and later T/Flite
starters, there are also 2 different
pitch 9 tooth pinions (25mm dia. and 29mm dia.this does'nt include
commercial, industrial and marine of which there are more!) E-mail the OE
part #'s you are after and we'll
go from there. Thanks for the inquiry. Regards Tim.

Hi all:
Just got back from the meet so I did not read messages until now.
Back in the late 70's, I designed, built and patented a 2-stroke internal
combustion engine. I was running 17:1 compression. When I went to start it, the
starter (Bosch starter from a Porsche) would hardly turn it. Went to a
local automotive electrical shop and they said they would put additional windings
in the starter. That did the trick. It turned the engine as if there was
little or no compression.
Wonder if it would work on our starters? The shop closed its doors years ago
so I cannot ask them.
By the way, with 17:1 compression, I had to down size the main jets to 50% of
original cross-sectional area to get it to start.

For what it's worth, some 30 years ago, I was having trouble with starting my
300D when it was hot. The local car electric shop put in what he called
"high-torque field coils", which he said were merely the field coils from a six
volt starter ('55 or earlier). Such starter coils were fairly available back
then. But since they were installed, the starter has never failed to spin the
old hemi. McTaggart

Are these Chrysler numbers the ones that an electrical shop needs or do they
use the Prestolite numbers that are stamped on the starter case? Like, for
my '55 I think the number is MCL-6304, or maybe not but that is the number
that is the reference number used in my parts books.

I have some "Vintage" seatbelt hardware. Probably aftermarket
but is from approximately 1962. The Brand is "Yankee" Auto seat belt.
The Correct bolts, washers, and mounting hardware from these
belts kits is still factory fresh, a nice bright chromate plate finish.
They have never been installed. I have enough for 5 seat belts.
(I am keeping the buckles and getting them re-webbed with new material,
these were the delux models from Yankee)
Anyone interested???
(I know some of you out there have miss-matched hardware in your
cars. This is a chance to get safety approved, period hardware
that matches if you are interested.)
I can supply pictures to any interested folks!!

Think Tim works off the numbers on the actual starter and more likely the
Autolite #.
'57 & '58 Autolite #MDL 6001 and Chrysler #1689 342
Tim has my original starter from my 300C at his shop at present, he is
rebuilding that & supplying me with a high speed unit as well. I used one of
these in a '57 NYer I had, really wizzed that hemi over.
Just reading the specs on these aftermarket units he supplies......
4.4- 1 GEAR REDUCTION
WEIGHS UNDER 9 LBS
525 FT/LBS OF TORQUE!!!!!
DURABLE, COMPACT, & HEAT RESISTANT
I do know that Tim will be in the US in October, maybe you could convince
him to bring a few starters with him as carry on luggage. Afterall they are
only 9lbs...

The Chrysler part number in the 1961 parts book is 1889200. One would think
that starter should be the same for 59, 60 and 61. I do not have parts books
for 59 and 60.

Those are steel cables. The early seat belts used them in order to provide
an adjustment for length, I guess. They were put through cable clamps in the
floor.

Greetings group!
I see from time to time that members need part numbers for various reasons, and do not have or have access to the parts books. I have all the factory parts books from 1955 thru 1965, all the years of our Letter Cars. If anyone needs a part number feel free to email me and at first opportunity I will look it up for you and send you a reply. Not only do I enjoy "digging" thru them I find I also learn more about each year 300 as I do. Of course if you need a part number for other than a 300 that is fine as well but I will give the "300" requests priority.
