Re: Parking Brake Cable Retainer From: "RON KURTZ" <Mark268@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 1 Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 06:56:52 -0500 From: "Wayne Graefen" <wgraefen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: 4spd F folders Howdy Y'all, The limited printing folder which shows a dark colored 4spd 300F convertible on its cover was produced for three auto shows and with the discontinuation of the offering of the 4spd / 400HP package, the folder was also discontinued. There are actually 3 versions of the folder carrying different info in one "box" regarding F facts or dealers depending on the city where it was available at the show. As Gil Cunningham has told me, the presence of the 4spd shifter in the photo was done with photo touch-up by Chrysler's photography department and that is why there are also torqueflite push buttons barely visible in the photo as well as no clutch pedal, particularly with a magnifying glass. So, this is not a "real" 4spd F convertible in a dark color. It is actually a retouched photo of "just another" F torqueflite convertible. There remains throughout history and to date only one 4spd / 400HP F convertible and it is white. So John Cote, check your barn again, as I was in there just a week ago taking notes on your stick shift 390HP 300C phaeton. I think you will find that those darn raccoons did more than just get into the F; they very selectively chewed on the stick shift, the clutch linkage, the short rams, the headers, and that big old Pont-a-Mousson trans and left you with a car you are going to have a very hard time documenting at this point. Anyone else believing they have a 4spd F out back, please call me. (57) I think that at one or another time, the post title is correct for mine ... ( difference between "squeals" and "squeaks" ?) I had no time to investigate my front wheels, maybe in some days so i'll keep you informed of what i find. Regarding the numerous replies, the first thing to check is contamined lining and leaking wheel cylinders. I precise some infos about my brakes: Fluid: silicon - Last major overhaul: 3 years old with these new parts: master and wheel cylinders, linings, flexible hoses, brake lines. "old" parts: return springs, brake support plates . Front drums has been turned, i replace (after the problem occured) the left one with another original. Seems that problem disapears but after 1 or 2 weeks, the "cold" locking came back. About disc brakes improvement: i tried to find a kit (AAJ) but here is their reply: > We are building a kit for 57-62 Imperial We just picked up a spindle > today, we are probably 2 weeks away from having a kit. The kit will > use 12" Rotors, 5 on 5 .5" but a 14" wheel will not clear. To use a > 14" wheel you can't use a rotor larger then a 11", it won't clear the > caliper and as far as I know there is not a rotor being made 11" with > 5.5" bolt pattern. Also the 57 Imperial does not share a spindle with > the 300C. The 300C shares a spindle with the rest of the 57 - 61 > Chrysler, DeSoto, Dodge, and Plymouth. At least bearing size, inner > being A-6 and the outer being A-2, Imperials use larger wheel > bearings A-5 inner and A-3 outer. I don't want to buy a set of 15" wheels, a set of 15" tires and a set of 15" wheelcovers.. About "trigger arm" adjustement, see what says the 57-59 FSM canadian version (more pics than in the '57 US FSM) at http://www.ifrance.com/c-i-f/images2/brake1.jpg . I think that this adjustement could alter the "strenght" of the booster. Also some tips about "squeaking" brakes , see http://www.ifrance.com/c-i-f/images2/brake2.jpg . I don't understand very well how grooving the lining !! side to side ? top to bottom ? diagonal ? This applies to P30 D64 rear brakes. Not for front brakes ? Thanks to all who reply, i'll let you know what occurs. PS: i'm sure i've a contamined lining: it's the ...rear left which was cleaned but not replaced after an axle leakage. But it's at the rear ... -- Philippe COURANT (Pau, France)- Webmaster des sites ACCF et C-I-F Imperial 1957 Crown convertible Buick 1996 Roadmaster wagon - American Car Club de France (ACCF) : http://www.accf.com - Chrysler Imperial France (C-I-F) : http://www.ifrance.com/c-i-f - Cadillac " Standard of Excellence " : http://www.ifrance.com/accf-cad - SportsCars : http://www.ifrance.com/accf-sprtcar [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 3 Date: Tue, 23 Sep 2003 18:25:49 -0400 From: <smopar@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Re: salvage yard recommendation > I contacted them about some parts via their website and eventually got a reply. Lousy communications, never returned calls or faxes... I have given up on trying to purchase something from them. I will add that I stopped in to their yard in 1995 or thereabouts, and that they were very nice folks in person...
