My towing experience is mainly with an injected 454 Chev in a 31' motor home with a four-speed A/T and pulling a Jeep Wrangler flat. With my rig, dropping the transmission selector from overdrive to drive is a great idea sometimes, regardless of whether towing or nay. If the load is such that the transmission is cycling by shifting up and down or likely to begin that, I lock it in the lower gear until I get over the top of the hill, the grade flattens or the headwind changes. I see no problem in using OD on level or downhill grades. I feel this mode of operation to be appropriate for nearly all automatic transmission vehicles. While I agree that the impact on fuel mileage will be minimal, rotating parts generally wear slower at lower RPM. Vehicles under powered for their application may need more human involvement to minimize the wear and tear on the drive train. Using one's brain to help make transmission gear selections begins to simulate what real driving used to be like. It's kind of fun to be involved in the process once in a while. Helps break up highway hypnosis. If you want to tow it to show it, please do it. Rich Barber Brentwood, CA C-300 MJMLandDev@xxxxxxx wrote: >Mike: > >Do yourself a really big favor.
