I have uncovered some specifications about thermal and non-thermal clutches. Non-thermal: Will be driven at 50% to 60% of water pump RPM 100% of the time. Thermal: Will be driven at 5% to 10% of water pump RPM until more cooling is required. When the temperature of the air coming through the radiator gets high enough, the clutch will be driven at 40% RPM. If even more cooling is needed, its driven speed will ramp up proportionate to the increase of the air temperature at the radiator to a maximum 85% of RPM. As the need for cooling decreases, the driven RPM decreases proportionately. When no additional cooling is required, the driven RPM drops back to its idle speed of 5% to 10% of water pump RPM. Summary: Non-thermal: Causes greater parasitic loss all the time but will not provide more than 60% of water pump RPM even when more cooling is needed. Thermal: Causes less parasitic loss most of the time but can provide up to 85% of RPM as the demand for cooling increases. A Hayden #2705 is a thermal clutch and has the identical dimensions as their non-termal clutch #1705 The #1705 corresponds to the Parts Master #36949 that Tony provided. I suspect that Parts Master has a thermal version of their own. Minnesota Marshall ________________________________________________________________ Get your name as your email address.
