Re: [Chrysler300] Fan Clutches

Summary:

Non-thermal: Causes greater parasitic loss all the time but will not
provide more than 60% of water pump RPM even when more cooling is needed.

Thermal: Causes less parasitic loss most of the time but can provide up
to 85% of RPM as the demand for cooling increases.

A Hayden #2705 is a thermal clutch and has the identical dimensions as
their non-termal clutch
#1705 The #1705 corresponds to the Parts Master #36949 that Tony
provided. I suspect that Parts Master has a thermal version of their
own.

A good fan clutch is very necessary and with some vehicles not only at town
speeds but also at road speed. Thermal fan clutches will normally provide
adequate fan speed for applications here in the hot desert/high altitude
climate. Non-thermal fan clutches will absolutely not provide enough air
movement. This I found true in my early on Chrysler experiences in So
California also.

It would appear that Hayden is the supplier of fan clutches for Parts
Master. Hayden is one of the manufacturers of fan clutches that we have
found to be reliable and work well. Parts Master (like NAPA and Car Quest
and others) doesn't make anything.
