Hello Everyone, The article that Chuck references is a very useful one. In addition to this information, remember that today's gasoline octane number is an average of the RON and the MON, whereas when our 300's were produced only the higher RON was used on the pumps, so we have to be careful in our comparisons. As there might be a 10-point difference or more in the two values, today's 95 octane might be quite comparable to yesterday's 100 octane rating. The RON addresses low-speed acceleration knock while the MON pertains to high-speed acceleration (passing) knock. Happy New Year, Al M.
