carb cleaning

Hi Guys.....

I rebuilt my 61 NewYorker carb over the week-end and found that Berrymans Carb dip has been pulled off the shelf in the So. California area due to EPA regulations. I used regular carb cleaner in a spray can along with a small brass brush and alot of elbow grease! One question though..... I have been told that the sealer coating that Carter put on the carbs when made might come off if you use a strong cleaner like Berryman's or any other aluminum cleaner. I guess without the sealer coating the carb will absorb the gas through the body. So what about this Acid cleaning mentioned below??? I would hate to see the carb get destroyed.

Thank you to all of you for your answers concerning cleaning the carbs
of my 56 chrysler. No auto parts store here in France is selling
specific carb cleaner in a bucket as some of you mentioned. So finally I
''ll try acid cleaning at a chome shop.
