I think your basic question is whether there is a significant performance gain in using a current aftermarket cylinder head on your ram-K over the original head, and if the improved port design and higher airflow capability of the newer designs would be of benefit. In a nutshell, the answer is no. The old ram castings are very restrictive with their long dimensions and small port cross sectional area. They effectively choke the airflow off in a 413 above about 4500RPM. Bigger heads will not overcome this. The original package was well engineered and optimized by Chrysler and, therefore, very difficult to improve upon.


If you want more power, switch to a new design intake along with the cylinder heads. The November 2002 issue of Mopar performance magazine ran an in depth dyno study on eleven current big block Chrysler intakes and contains much information that I'm sure you would find helpful. Several of the manifolds produced high horsepower numbers because they flowed adequate air to keep up with the heads. Good luck.

Sorry for not being clearer, I am going to use the rams on the K. Which is
the reason for having to use the ram cam. Sorry
