I had a similar breakage situation with a '62 Morgan generator bolt when I was a teenager - eventually (after 20 some-odd bolt replacements!) I determined that there was a misalignment problem with the bracket, causing the pulleys to also be out of whack - this resulted in undue stress on the bolt and Voila! Breakage!  
 
My own lesson in that case is that there is often a problem whose symptom is repeatedly fixed, but the problem continues.  Good luck!
