Matt; Rescently I had the same problem  with the starter on my G convt.. I 
changed the relay, same problem, changed  to a new battery , same problem, 
Then figued it had to be the starter, so I then removed it. I had it rebuilt 
less than 10 k ago ,when I restoredthe car.  The bushing on the end of the 
starter had spung half way out and was binding the armature and nearly 
burnted up the starter. So the starter peaple fixed same and so far so 
good!!  check this and also check all electical connections.  Gary Holm in
