RE: [Chrysler300] (no subject)

It is uncommon for batteries to blow up. Wet cell batteries have vent caps
built in to the tops of each cell that allow the gases to safely vent off,
and therefore eliminates the build up of pressure inside the battery.
Sealed, maintenance free, valve regulated batteries allow a certain amount
of pressure to build up within the cells to promote recombination of
hydrogen and oxygen back to the cell to eliminate watering.

What type of battery was in use when these explosions happened? Did the
case rupture? What was the failure mode? Was it caused by too high of a
charge voltage? If a conventional wet battery, were the vent caps plugged
somehow?

Curious minds want to know...

The only problem I had was with the new battery. It decided to explode on

me on the way over to Ocala. There's nothing quite like seeing battery
acid
all over a freshly redone engine compartment. The plug boots basically
disintegrated! I spent about a half hour hosing the engine compartment
down but unfortunately the damage was already done. So Monday I take the
car back in to
refinish everything that just got refinished. What a pain!.

I had the same thing happen to me on the way to the Williamsburg meet.

Now I carry the original battery, and travel on a modern battery. You can
always change the battery once you get there.
