Re: [Chrysler300] did anything compare/rival 300s pre 1963?

In 1962 we were Drag Racing our 1961 Chebbi SS 409 4-speed convertible.
One of my Strip slips was against a 300 H which I beat by a bunch. The
only thing that could beat me was another 409, a coupe 200 #'s lighter.
This was at US 30 Drag-away in York, PA. This was an Airport which was
active. The Air charts showed it closed on weekends, except for
emergencies. We sometimes had to wait while a plane landed. Grumpy
Jenkins was the tech inspector then.
So you can throw the 409's into the mix. They were not popular,
everyone liked the 327's, but were much more like the Hemi's with huge
amounts of low-end torque. I had to replace the 409 with a Corvette 327
to sell the car. Turns out later it was one of 7 built! If I only had
it now...................
This was our Family car with 3 kids riding in the back. A former
"Factory built for drag car", I got a Certificate of Origin when we
bought it, as we were the first to title it.

Those were the days, Ray
