The above links will illustrate just how much value that a buyer should give 
to Ebay's "Feedback" system and the protection that a buyer/seller is 
provided by Ebay.

As a motorcycle rider/owner, I often check out Ebay listings for motorcycles 
and parts.  I often will see listings for 20,000 dollar bikes for a "Buy it 
Now" price of say 8,000 dollars(Cashiers check or Money Order only).  Often 
the seller will have a perfect "feedback" score of over 300.

These could all be prevented if the Ebay was really concerned and would 
expend whatever resources required to cease these frauds.  However they 
appear daily.  And of course if you should through ignorance or carelessness 
fall victim to one of these ploys, do you really think that Ebay is going to 
bail you out?

And do not for one moment believe that if you purchase by Paypal that you 
are offered much protection.  I have read too many instances of buyer's 
attempts to have Paypal reverse a fraudulent transaction and been 
unsuccessful or place thru an overload of paperwork and red tape.  It is not 
like calling up your credit card company and having them reverse a charge 
that you dispute.

I know that many of our members check out Ebay often and use it for selling 
a purchasing of items.

Be careful out there(to quote from Hill Street Blues, for those who 
remember).

I would agree that comparing Ebay and the Alcohol industry is apples and 
oranges.  However there are rotten apples and sour oranges, I think the 
analogy is correct and stand by it.
