I'd like to add another step: Before applying the sealant to the head surface, clean the gasket mating surfaces good with lacquer thinner or brake cleaner and a cotton swab. It will remove any trace of oil left on the flange, and greatly increase the adhesion. Just don't be too generous with the liquid, you don't want to get too much of that stuff mixed in with your motor oil. Very completely clean the valve cover, and makesure it is flat around the bolt holes. 2. Properly apply the yellow (or black) permatex weather strip adhesive to both the cover and the gasket. Probably a couple coats,letting each dry before bonding. 3. Apply two or three layers of permatex #2 gasket sealer on the head, letting each dry. I think the problem with the B engine sealing in this area is at least partly due to the fact the surface was never machined flat. Anyway, this is an attempt to seal the potential voids 4. I apply a coupe coats to the gasket as well. 5. Assemble the cover to the head and tighten the nuts carefully. I retighten---not too tight---several times over the next several days. I am sure others have there own ways, and will be interested in hearing about them. In my experience, the 6 attachment covers are not all that much better than the four. As for the valley cover, the smart money would say to replace it. It sure is a lot of work to go thru again to fix a vacuum leak. (I have gotten away with using the old on though!)
