Re: [Chrysler300] Chrysler300's on Trailers

Rich and All 300 Fans interested in trailers, Extra capability (load
capacity) is cheap insurance in a number of areas in this discussion. As
those of you at Carlyle last year, or the Maine meet, may know, I went
"over the top" when I decided to get a new trailer two plus years ago. My
enclosed trailer is rated at 12,000 lb. I pull with an Excursion (3/4 ton
pickup equivalent) with a V-10. I sometimes carry items heavier than big
Chryslers/Imperials and wanted extra room and weight capability for those
times. The tires I purchased are ST235/80R, trailer service only, load
range D with 3,000lb rating at 65psi by Goodyear. The max I expect to do is
about 10,500, but the "extra" insures every component will hold up well.
Two other areas beside trailer and tire capability are worth mentioning.
Adequate pulling vehicle (weight) - A) for directional stability in slippery
weather when being passed by an 18 wheeler going 10 over the posted limit,
and - B) for significant stopping power and traction in the wet or emergency
situations. In addition when tying down your treasure on/in the trailer, be
certain the straps have rating at least THREE times the weight of your car!
If you ever stop really suddenly - read that " hit anything ", you do not
want your car coming loose to pile into your tow vehicle or possibly turn
over the entire rig. Either or both of those things are likely when that
"abrupt stop" puts 2 or 3 G's on your tie down straps! Doing it all right
protects you, your family/friends with you, and your car - which is the
goal. All the Best 300ing, Phil
