Re: [Chrysler300] Rocker Panel Replacement

These pieces you see on E-bay are, IMHO, a temporary repair at best. About
all they will do is cover up the rust that is already there and are usually
not of the original gauge steel and may not be of the correct size (width)
to fully wrap what's left of your sill to properly fasten to the lower pinch
weld. There needs to be enough solid surface to weld these to during
installation. If your car is a convertable, there is a solid flat iron
reinforcement stiffener that runs the length of the rocker assly INSIDE of
it The original factory parts were heavy duty pieces.

The originals, as one can see looking at the car, were long stamped pieces
and were a structural part of the car, formed to fit up under and weld to
the door jambs and continue rearward UNDER the 1/4 panels to the rear wheel
opening and also had drains and vents stamped into them. These are what get
plugged up with road debris/undercoat etc. over the years and we all know
what comes after! The 1/4's then wrapped around under these and are pinch
welded to the floor pan under the sill. I have the same problem in the lower
rear door jamb area on our F. where the jamb meets the rocker. We need good
quality replacement panels for these areas on all the cars. But I'm afraid
tooling, even for small sections of these areas, say the lower 12" or so of
the jamb, would be cost prohibitive.

I was lucky enough to have located NOS Chrysler rockers years ago that I
used on our Green C hardtop pictures of it are on the Club web site.
