DOT 5 will entrap air. I have always gone real slow with the process and never used a pressure bleeder to get good brakes. My guess would be that some element in your system is leaking. Not visible but leaking never the less. This is for me a BTDT thing but will spare you the details. Plan of attack to bypass/isolate parts in the system is a good one. Trucks have long brake lines and air will get trapped in high spots so we run along the lines tapping to get the air to move along.
