Interesting to note that the Mexican Road Race modifications rule book went from 12 lines in '51 to 20 pages of rules in '53. The rule that specifically hurt Adam and Chrysler's quest for race dominance in '53 was, "at least 5,000 units of the type entered for the race have been manufactured annually. Only factory listed optional equipment can be utilized." Carl Kiekhaefer entered 4 cars with the single quad or 2 barrel, the only real team that could threaten the Lincolns. But 2 were disqualified from there Standard class because they were running the new Powerflite transmission and 5,000 units had not been built in '53. Adam would have also been "against the rules" for his solid lifter roller camshaft and dual quads. The Lincolns breathed a sigh of relief...... It is currently in Owen's possession in New Zealand. There have been suggestions that other '53-54 New Yorker Pan Am race cars (Carrera Panamericana - Mexican Road Race) cars were dual-quad-equipped. My understanding is that race rules prohibited that (which is why Adam did not race). No others known to exist. Also suggested is the possibility a handful of '54 Imperials were dual-quad-equipped. None known to exist. Adam was the 5th to last '53 New Yorker for the model year. So Chrysler had dual quads in 1953. Estimated horsepower 315 with solid lifters, roller tappet cam, raised compression.
