Just for reference, the 1955 gas tank has the sender mounted to the top of the tank, accessed through a plug in the trunk floor--and is only the sending unit. The outlet is a separate connection with an inaccessible filter on the inside. Slopping sealer to the inside of it very well could plug the filter. I suppose one could fun compressed into the outlet tube to try and blow the gunk off of the filter??? Once removed, all that is left is the tank itself with only the big hole the sender was in and the filler tube. There maybe a vent tube somewhere also but the sealer won't seal it off.
