Hi Mark, Thank you for your reply! Your solution to the problem sounds like it will work on my H as well. It's the onle explanation that makes sense to me. I think that I have an original booster on my car, but after 46 years, who knows. Did you encounter any problems with removing and replacing the push rod from the booster? Thanks again, Doug Warrener -------------- Original message -------------- From: mrs954@xxxxxxx Hi Doug, I had the same problem with my H. My pedal traveled almost to the floor so I felt really uncomfortable driving the car. I tried adjusting the rod, and the brakes locked up until I returned the adjustment to the original position. I finally found the solution. I removed the push rod that connects to the brake pedal and protrudes into the booster. I took it to work and had our tool maker duplicate one that was about 3/16 inch longer than the original one. Now the brakes work fine. Turns out I have the wrong booster on the car. I obtained this H about two years ago, and the brake pedal has always had about 3/4 inch of free play. After completely going through the entire system ( drums, shoes.wheel and master cylinders, bleeding and replacing the fluid and adjustments), I have finally determined that the problem is inside the power brake booster. The push rod that engages the master cylinder piston was adjusted properly and I determined that the pedal free play was between the two push rods somewhere inside the booster. I then adjusted out the push rod to the master cylinder piston until most of the free play was eliminated. As you can guess the brakes locked up, and I have now re-adjusted the push rod to it's original position and again have the free play in the petal. Thanks in advance for your help and comments, Doug Warrener Fair Oaks.
