I know the old style non-gear reduction starter was used on later Mopars, even as late as '65 on the Dodge Power Wagon. When I had my '61 300G starter rebuilt, the rebuilder told me there were 3 different stator windings available, referencing the stator winding used in the Power Wagon as the most powerful. He rebuilt it using one of those and I never had a problem with "heat soak' again. The gear reduction starter came with the '62 cast aluminum torqueflite trans, and was used for many years after that, probably well into the '90s in trucks and vans. The '62 starter will not fit a '59, it won't bolt up to the older style bell housing. If memory serves, the pre-62 type had on-center ears/bolt hole flanges. Not positive the assemblies were original, but I've bought two post '61 cars with the "old style" starter. These cars were both manual shift V8 cars. One a '62 Newpie, the other a '64 880 wagon. Perhaps the "old" starters were available later... ----- Original Message ----- From: Charlie Valentine To: Kenneth Wilson ; RaffaPlymouth ; Chrysler300@ <mailto:Chrysler300%40yahoogroups.com> yahoogroups.com Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2008 5:53 PM Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Fw: 1959 Starter I think that the starters are different. I believe that 1959, 1960 and 1961 starters are the same. The starters are different in 1962 and That same 1962 starter is used for many many years and is much more common and easier to find. Much lower price too Again all of this is what I Think I know...don't take my word on it. The starter I found online for 167.00 plus a 50.00 core was thru Advance Auto. If the starters for 59,60,61 were only used in those years, they might be very rare and hard to find and thats why the higher price. I did look in the Yellow pages and called a rebuilder and he says he has something old for Chrysler on the shelf and is looking into what it's for. He said he'll call me back when he finds out. I have a couple rebuilt starters. I'm not familiar with what the 1959 starter looks like but what I have is like the one used on my '62 Chrysler. These were among the parts I got along with an H many years ago. Cost to you is $50.00 . The shipping will be expensive to Italy as it is heavy. I can send a picture of it and get 3'a off it (if any). Probably can't do anything till Wed or Thursday. and will be gone all the 24th through the 31st. Regards; Ken Wilson, San Jose, Calif.
