In discussion responding to my questions on PPG glass markings on my 1955 C-300, I received the hot skinny, or at least a reasonable explanation of numeric codes on the various pieces. Wayne Graefen suggests the following and it makes sense on my car. Interestingly enough, the front glass may have been manufactured in March, 1955?the same month as the car was manufactured. Just-in-time parts delivery in 1955? Thanks to Wayne for this information (copied below, with permission). Now I've got to find a PPG SOLEX DUOLITE passenger side glass date coded 35 or earlier. C-300'ly, Rich Barber (date coded 98) Brentwood, CA 1955 Chrysler C-300 Glass Standards and labeling I would read what you have given me here as made at plant #9: 64 June of '54 15 January of '55 25 February of '55 35 March of '55 but then I'm applying '57 300C info to your car. These manufacturers could change how they did this. W AS-1, AS-2, etc. are indeed glass standards. "American Standards - First Quality", etc. is the interpretation in the glass catalogs. You will note on shaded windshields that the standard marking has a line above it. This is to indicate that up in the shaded area it does not meet that standard for clarity. Side glass did not need to be as perfect so was slightly inexpensively produced as AS-2. First number following may be the production plant where the glass was made. The last two numbers standards are date code for month and year. In 1957 I find that virtually all original glass carries date codes within six months of the production date of the car itself.
