Re: [Chrysler300] For those of you NOT converting to discs

Hi All:

Let me get a couple of cents worth in here. Any of you members who know John
Characky, know that when he touches a 300, it is fixed and stays fixed. He
rebuilt the brakes on my 300F when I first purchased it. To help prevent the
brakes from fading, he cut into the leading edge of each backing plates at 2
locations about 1/2" deep radially and about 2-1/2" apart and bent the metal in
between outward to form an air scoop. For about 5-6 years I never experienced
a fade from any speed but I was never quite satisfied with the overall
braking.

About the turn of the century, I was following John Hertog in a Sebring vert.
to a wrecking yard out in the boondocks southwest of Phoenix at about 80mph.
John pulled over and stopped on a dime to figure out where we were at. I
went flying by him with my brake pedal through the floor board. That did it.
When I returned home, I designed a mounting bracket and installed brakes from a
1961 Plymouth. I will never go back to drum brakes unless I ever sell the car
(no earlier than 2048 when I am 110 years of age.) and the new owner wants
them. I had to go to 15" wheels but a little modification job to my wheels
solved the problem of using 14" wheel covers on 15" wheels. Unfortunately, John
Hertog's web site is down so I cannot refer anyone to the stories of my
conversions on that web site. Anyone figure out yet how to get it up and running?

Bottom line ... I am very happy with my disc brakes. But to each his own.
