Doesn't the PCV connect to the air cleaner on top of the carburetor? If so, there would be no effect other than to put the nasty, oily fumes into the little shredded wheat filter on the side of the air cleaner. I understand the PCV could be connected to the intake manifold to see higher vacuum and pull more fumes--I'm just not that familiar with the connection points on all cars. My '99 Jeep PCV is connected to a header between the air cleaner and the inlet manifold (injected engine). As I recall, PCV's act as check valves to prevent backflow/backfire into the crankcase. Anyone ever install a PCV on an old hemi? Would our judges deduct points for this minor modification that would be good for the environment? I had a long visit with a lifeguard at a car show at a swimming pool today. He wants to be an M.E. and was really impressed with the styling and innovative design of our 1955 C-300. He had good questions and claimed to be an A student. He was genuinely surprised that Chrysler 300's had been made for so many years and thought the door handles, shifter in the dash, power seats, power steering drive, hemispherical combustion chamber design and racing prowess to be really "cool". He even loved the rough idle. His dad has a '65 442 needing restoration. Really made my day. I recently installed one on my G, which had the road draft tube previously. Since the device allows vacuum to pull vapors from the crankcase into the intake manifold, doesn't that act like a vacuum leak? I must say, my car has been more prone to stalling than it was before I installed the PCV valve. Any thoughts on this? I don't recall seeing any different procedure in the service manual for adjusting the carbs per se. Bob J Bob, I installed one on my 383 wedge last year. All I did was readjust the idle settings at the time, and I've noticed no difference. When I chose a valve, I got one from a similarly sized production engine. The valves are designed to flow different amounts at different manifold vacuums, so I doubt you're having trouble that way. I'd recheck your idle settings.
