Hi Rich & all - I have a 1958 Chrysler Windsor parts car with a 354 poly-head V-8 with a two barrel caburetor - and there is a hose from the oil filler cap to the air filter, and metal fittings on both the oil cap & air filter housing to accomodate the hose. It all looks factory. Are there and 300 installations of this setup? On this Windsor, by the way, there is no PCV valve. About your conversation with a future mechanical engineer - I started out being a car buff as a young kid. I had never known anything specific about 300 Letter Cars unitl I saw a 70s Road & Track "Salon" feature on Richard Carpenter's 300-D convertible. I read up about 300s and discovered information about Bob Rodger, who got his mechanical engineering degree at Clarkson University (it was Clarkson College of Technology when he was there) in 1939. A few years later, I applied to Clarkson, the only college I applied to, and was accepted there - that's where I got my mechanical engineering degree. Though I lived on campus, I took many 100MPH+ trips on the 150 mile trip through the Adirondacks back 'n' forth from Potsdam to home in my 300-K coupe - I used every one of those 360 horses. i wish that car had a 150MPH speedometer - several occasions, I had the needle a few clicks past 120MPH - I'm guessing 128-130MPH was close to the top end for that car - on Goodyear Custom Power Cushion bias ply tires yet. Also, a mechanical engineering buddy of mine who I turned on to 1957-1959 Mopars (he bought a 1958 DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman two-door hardtop recently) was fascinated by the coaxial power steering design in his car - he was used to F#rd products, where there was a remote slave cylinder doing the hydraulic assist - he thought the all-in-one Mopar unit was advanced thinking, from the viewpoint of the 1950s. I had a long visit with a lifeguard at a car show at a swimming pool today. He wants to be an M.E. and was really impressed with the styling and innovative design of our 1955 C-300. He had good questions and claimed to be an A student. He was genuinely surprised that Chrysler 300's had been made for so many years and thought the door handles, shifter in the dash, power seats, power steering drive, hemispherical combustion chamber design and racing prowess to be really "cool". He even loved the rough idle. His dad has a '65 442 needing restoration. Really made my day. All I did was readjust the idle settings at the time, and I've noticed no difference. When I chose a valve, I got one from a similarly sized production engine. The valves are designed to flow different amounts at different manifold vacuums, so I doubt you're having trouble that way. I'd recheck your idle settings.
