Hello Group, -I have been studying the website tech. page entry by John Hertog where he has bent the steering arms on the spindles with an acetylene torch to be able to reach the outer tie rod ends...he bends them out, I believe, because they don't meet the tie rods, as the tie rods now are too long, even with the turn-buckle connecting sleeves adjusted all the way in, for this set-up... -I remember speaking with him about this a few times and he said to just come over and we would do this together one day...the arrival of our daughter in 2006 took precedence over the Chrysler, and I never got there...so now I'll now be doing this conversion alone... -I researched the notion of just making the tie rod ends shorter...a machinist at Rare Parts told me that he could run up some more threads on each tie rod end- the inner tie rods specifically, because they are the long ones...I originally thought I could do this myself, but a left-hand die in 11/16" is impossible to find, unless perhaps, you are working on the Space Shuttle or you work at Rare Parts... -so why not just buy a new set of inner tie rod ends(from Rare Parts), have Rare Parts run up another 1 1/2" of threads on each one(these will be left-hand threads) so you get more adjustability with the connecting turn-buckle sleeve, then cut off what you don't need with a cutoff wheel??- instead of heating up the steering arms on the spindles to bend them??...I am leary of the metallurgy here...I know that annealing hardened forged parts is the way to get the metal to do what you want, but what about the cooling/ re-hardening?? and possible brittleness(or softness) you may create?? -does anyone have any thoughts about this or expertise in this area??...is what I have suggested, a good idea??
