Re: [Chrysler300] c300 at Barrett-Jackson

Hi Group -

An observation from the B-J and RM Auctions. My cousin Tom Askounis (300F Coupe) and I attended the RM reception last Thursday evening, as well as Barrett-Jackson on Friday. The red C300 that sold for $75k (plus $7,500 commission) appeared to be in beautiful condition - inside and out, great paint with no visible blemishes. Too bad it was parked in the parking lot off to the side of the main viewing areas of the event. The white C300 that sold at B-J for $21k (plus $2,100 commission) appeared to be in need of a pretty full body "do-over." The driver's door (not shown in B-J's promo shots) had a concave area that's visible in a couple pictures we took, and the belt line moldings had more large dents than 'straight' areas. The sheet metal sides were rippled and needed substantial rework - probably covered  some collision  damage . It didn't look rusty, but I didn;t crawl underneath for a look. There was more orange peel in the paint than on the oranges in my kitchen . The engine was resprayed over the existing chipped paint, and didn't look great. We didn't hear it run, and weren't able to speak with the owner to get more information. Although a low owner car with a nice story to it, it didn't show anywhere nearly as well as RM's red C - and wasn't up to B-J's glowing review of it. That said, $21,000 was on the 'soft side.' I've got a few pics of each car - let me know if you'd like a copy.

Picking up on the quality of "restoration" that Jim states, did you notice in the B-J photos on the car that BOTH interior door handles were missing for this "restored" car! Does that give you any security that other less obvious things may have been wrong or glossed over with a can of spray bomb or electrical tape?
I think the car may have gone a bit cheap but in actuality, maybe the car really needed a correct restoration and not a fluffball job just to get it to the infamous B-J circus.

Just my observation,

Unless a car is ultra-rare in its own right, e.g., a Bugatti, the price depends almost entirely on the perceived quality of the restoration.?? A 1958 Edsel Corsair convertible went for $22000 (24000 with the buyer's commission), while?a 1955 Buick 4dr went for $40000 ($44000 with?buyer's commission).? Other than the 300C and a 300K hardtop, I have not seen any other letter cars in this years auction.?

Hi ?,
If the engine compartment was any indication about the rest of the car, that's your answer. It also needed a set of new door sill plates.

Can anyone shed some light on why the '55 c300 went for less than

$30,000 at auction today? I am totally baffled and worried about the

value of my c300.
