To all: As to the original post about the dual point distributor in a 383, I thought I would point out that you can buy an adapter that will allow you to place a 440/413 "RB" block (Tall or Long) distributor into a 361/383/400 (Low or Short) "B" block. They are available from Mancini Racing - See: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/adrbhemdisto.html Also from Jims Auto Parts (P/N p3690275) http://www.jimsautoparts.com/mopar_performance_ignition.htm Also other MOPAR parts sources. They all seem to cost a little over 60 bucks plus shipping. You get the spacer as well as a new distributor hold down clamp and bolt. For awhile, I had both a 383 "B" engine (in my '65 Plymouth Fury) and the 413 "RB" engine in my '62 Chrysler 300 Sport Ragtop. I bought an aftermarket fully adjustable (dwell and advance) distributor and ignition control box to fit the "RB" engine. All I had to do to play with it in the "B" engine was this adapter. >From Big John Mc Adams (In SoCal) _____ From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of lettercars@xxxxxxx Sent: Monday, April 27, 2009 4:54 AM To: tdenkler3853@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; richard@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] Re: just joined and sure could use your help Thank you, Tom! I had forgotten about the RB 383 of those years. A little confusing, but yes, there is both a low block and a raised block 383. Gil C. In a message dated 4/27/2009 6:39:56 A.M. They had 4.06 bore and 3.75 stroke just like the RB blocks. Seems a lot of early 60's high perf engines came with dual points. Sounds like someone swapped distributors somewhere along the line and you eneded up with a better one! I assume it does not have a mechanical tach drive provision (a place for a tach cable to screw into place). Not sure if there ever was a B motor with a mechanical tach option?? Anyways, the distributor might be from a later model 383HP like a Road Runner. I'd try a cap for a '68-'70 383 Road Runner and see if it fits. There's probably some other trick to determine but I'm in DFW right now passing through and this is the best I can do. I'm new to the group and just acquired a 62 300 sport convert. I've been reading all your commentary and it sure seems like there is an abundance of knowledge available from all the members. I could sure use some of that to help me get started with my 300. The car is in great shape body, chrome and interior wise coming out of California for most of its life with 76,000 original miles and all the original documentation. Needs some mechanicals which you have to expect given its age. We're pretty sure its the original 383 with a 2 barrel but everyone seems stumped by the fact that it has a dual point distributor. That has led to a problem finding a replacement cap and rotor since none of the local parts stores can tie a dual point to the 383. I would appreciate anyone shedding some light on this. Could also use the specs for point gap, dwell angle, timing, etc. > > Glad to be a member and thank you for letting a non-letter guy in. > > Bill > ---------------------------------------------------------- -- No virus found in this incoming message.
