Even easier: Pull out the two wires from the switch and connect them (alligator clip), this eliminates the need to push the pedal. If there is light ? defect switch, no light ? check the bulbs first, then for voltage in the socket. Disconnect the wires from the switch, place a continuity tester across the terminals and press the brake pedal. If you get the continuity, the problem is elsewhere. If not, it is the switch.
