[Chrysler300] care re using narrower centre wiper rubbers

Just a caution/thought?
Be very careful if you are not sure replacement wiper rubbers have the wide enough centre-raised (triangle) strip that keeps them in the blade. I got briefly caught in the showers we have been having near endlessly for the last 12 weeks, turned the wipers on in the '57 TBird while at lights just to clear screen, and after 2 wipes, noticed it looked like part of wiper rubber suddenly came off on passenger side.

With only 2 or 3 wipes, on drying it off by hand, I saw it was enough to scratch the whole glass, where the four little bent back overthemselves bits are on the blade that you slip the rubber holder bit through.

Also when I got home about 3 miles away, there was whole new rubber blade sitting at base of screen - I then remembering it one replaced earlier, but had not used it as the car has no top on it as I restore the complex frame part, and I normally don't drive it in the rain.

ONLY GOOD NEWS ABOUT IT ALL, and maybe for any 50s-60s, 300 user - with an old windscreen - is I used cutting compound to polish out the faint scratch arcs, and BOY IT MADE THE SCREEN SO MUCH CLEARER TO SEE THROUGH, I DID THE WHOLE OUTSIDE OF SCREEN, and you would not believe how much better/easier to see through. Any 300 owners with original 50s screens try it, it one of best fast least costly ways to make using an old car/classic way better. I used just ordinary good quality machine green cutting compound with good hand held cotton cloth, and it took very little time and effort - maybe try a test bit first.

The thing that amazed me was just those 2-3 wipes with weak old Ford vacuum wipers scratched the glass - hate to think what Chrysler multi speed electric wipers would do to a 300 screen?!! 40 years using old cars, and I stiill learning new things, handy little trick, many others maybe knew years ago?!

I ran into the same problem on the way to Branson. Got a pair of refills
from O'Reillys and tried to make them work but had no luck. Even after I had
crimped the arms to accept the narrower blades they still flopped around in
the arm enough that the arm would nearly scratch the windshield so I took
them back.

Not only is the slotted metal blade holder, for lack of a better term, too
narrow but the blade did not seem to be as "tall" as the originals. O got to
wondering later that maybe the original blade holder might be substituted
for the newer narrow one but by this time the rain had pretty much cleared
out and wipers were not an isue.
