Above my Goers headliner I used an insulation that I got from J.C. Whitney. They use it a lot in street rods to insulate the doors, ceiling, floor, and firewall. It's about a half inch thick, made of some kind of gray material like the old type jute carpet padding, and it has a shiny foil-like membrane on one side. I cut the pieces to fit between the structural members in the roof. I brushed on contact cement onto the painted steel, and also on the foil side of the insulation. The only way this stuff will stick is to put the foil side toward the outside of the car, so that the glue adheres to the foil and the painted steel of the car. The insulation works well to keep the interior cool under the hot sun on my black car. The contact cement is not easily affected by the heat. I also used this same material as carpet padding under my Goers carpet. I glued it down to the floor before installing the carpet. It does a good job of keeping road and engine heat out of the car, too. Two rolls did the whole job. And eight years later it is still stuck to the ceiling of the car with no droops or sags. And under the carpet, it's still spongy like it was the day I installed it. Unlike foam padding, this material won't break down and get crumbled. A little advice here is to follow the directions on the contact cement can word-for-word. Use plenty of ventilation and let it set up and get tacky before installing the padding.

Am installing a new head liner in my B, bought from Gary Goers. Have the old one 
ut - what a mess. The pad above is a paper ground rag insulation package - two 
ieces. Of course they came out in pieces.
y plan is to paint the metal with Rustolium.  My question is what type of 
nsulating material should I use ?
hinking about a foam material held in place by adhesive. Suggestions ??????
