As a fellow quite amateur horologist I agree with all you say here, Rich. I would add that one may want to leave it hooked up to a 12V source for a week or two on the bench. There is a an adjustment "F-S" on the back of the clockworks that can be nudged to make it faster or slower by up to several minutes a day. By playing with it for a number of days you can actually get these clocks to be fairly close to accurate - probably within a few seconds a day. Not very good by quartz standards, but not too bad.
