Warren is correct in recommending new cables. However, if it's a driver and not a restored car, then there is a much better replacement connector then the old style lead with clamp top replacement. Auto Zone (and others, i'm sure) have a gold plated connector which uses set screws to secure the cables. It also has 4 holes for wires, 2 large and 2 small. so that you can cut off the corroded end and secure the cable in a large hole. And any of the little wires which are molded into a factory cable can be installed into the little holes with set screws. Also available for any other power wire you might need to add for accessories. Used one on my Dakota Pickemup truck and it works well. About $14.00... New cable about $60.00 Ray On Jun 6, 2010, at 3:09 PM, Warren Anderson wrote: Most seen battery cable problem is with the clamp fixit things that get installed at the battery posts to replace bad cable ends. They are nothing but trouble and need constant maintenance. Complete, new, high quality cables ahould always be used when ends or cables are bad. Temp ends are high resistance connection at best so there is a voltage drop even though enough poop may get through to start car.
