My 2¢ worth -- I, too, disconnect the (negative, it's a "F") cable from the post, tightening it only minimally when reattaching for easy removal next time. BUT... I clean the negative post and connector regularly with the tool designed for that, and have never had a problem with insufficent power to the starter.

 I'm guilty of doing that some too, but you must understand that you run fairly high risk of losing your connection during cranking and you will certainly have less voltage to operate your ignition system and that's critical during start-up especially if you have a c300 still using its 6volt system.

 I have never found the need for one of those battery disconnects as with it you'll end up with a weird adapter. What I've been doing for years is to never quite tighten up the negative clamp and then I can easily twist it ON or OFF without use of tools. I always disconnect the negative cable whenever I park the car at either a car show or it's storage area. My theory is that it's hard to have an electrical fire if you don't have a dc loop in the vehicle. Just my 2 cents worth.
