1) I need two pairs of armrest bases for 1957 300C, one badly for right side if anyone has even a useable poor one?

 

Can those working one new repo ones give some rough idea of what they hope they may cost - aussie dollars to US Dollars are usually pretty poor, plus USPS International ever dearer, so if I am to wait, can you give some idea, as if too dear for me, I will make some meantime.


2) thank you to those who replied re my ebay problems with a high volume (sometimes Mopars) seller. I did contact ebay after I got no reply after returning the starter relay to Vans. What annoyed me with ebay was they insisted the only way I could return items was by the most expensive mail option - from memory about $30-$45, for an item so small you could slip it in an envelope. So I sent it by a lessor tracked means for about $12. ebay's claim form refused an entry unless it used their insisted most expensive mail system. At the time, ebay even if it won for you, did not refund 1c of your return mail monies. I got stuck into ebay and said their system sucked, rewarded bad sellers as they never lost like the innocent buyer. If I had used the ebay mail system, and got full ebay refund, I would still be out of pocket the return postage of around $40 ebay insisted I use, yet the seller had only lost a few dollars fees and had his item back to resell. I told them they should fix it so sellers were liable for return postage if they at fault. I told ebay many long time ebay buyers here in Australia had wiped ebay due to sellers being treated better than buyers.  A few months later ebay changed the refund system so it now can allow payment of return postage in claim costs. That fixed ebay a bit, plus they barred sellers from leaving negative feedback against buyers, which was another trick I pointed out to ebay bad sellers used to hurt good buyers. Sellers can now not leave negative feedback.

 

ebay is truly great for getting those hard to find bits, or else as I said on this site a while back, just to research the part you are looking for if it is something that is listed say 4-6 times a year, and you save it as a search that comes in your emails when a new one is listed. Re ebay good points, one of my most surprising 'buys', was a new old stock doorskin for my 1971 Lamborghini - due to wars and instability, it has been buried in an underground bunker in the middle east since the 70s - someone in Europe bought the whole lot - thousands of new parts - in some cases enough to near build whole complete car bodies. It cost me $1,000, postage included in 'buy it now' price as a fovour - but hey it was genuine, brand new, and due to desert dryness, the bare steel had only finest light surface rust. But then how long since somebody has seen a mint nos 50s 300 rear quarter panel - that would be a find??!! The Lambo stach was in the middle east, as apparently the seller told me it was 2nd biggest Lambo sales market in World back then - don't think such a situation exists re any likely staches on 300 stuff overseas??

But all this still leaves high volume sellers who do not wish to reply to emails or negative feedback, as one negative feedback amongst many hundreds does not hurt their 'in the thousands' feedback rating enough to seemingly worry them??!

As Jim Bartuska also replied, we've done quite a bit of work toward 
reproducing these universally deteriorated armrest bases, and we 
believe we will shortly come up with a result that is both original in 
appearance and economical. The process we have finalized on should 
satisfy on both counts. Cost projections are not firm yet, but we 
believe the price per pair is going to be quite attractive.

It turns out that I am personally the current bottleneck in making this 
all move forward. I have committed to modeling one up in mahogany as 
true to the original shape as possible (at 7% oversize to allow for 
post-molding shrinkage). That model will be digitized (digitally 
scanned), and then mirrored for the other armrest. Inner and outer 
thermoformed plastic parts will be molded and then be epoxied together 
and machined to the final product configuration.

Well, that project has been sitting on my desk staring at me for a few 
weeks now, and I have the best of intentions to take care of it 
shortly. So please be patient, and we will likely have these new 
armrest bases out within a few months.

And BTW we will produce the '57/'58 in beige as close as possible to 
original. We also plan to make up a few sets that have a modification 
in the mold to turn out correct ones for the '59. My guess is the 
earlier bases that come out of the molds are going to be the best, most 
accurate ones. So getting word to us of your need early would be smart, 
and we'll try to keep you abreast of how the project is coming as we 
move along.
