Rolland, I would have suspected the power supply first but as you said if the oil pressure and gas gage act normal the power supply is apparently okay. My next suspicion is the temperature sender. These are easy and cheap to replace and available as NAPA or other places. Good luck. After starting a cold engine, during warm up, the temperature gage will move clear over to the hot area. After 4 or 5 minutes it will return to the normal operating temperature, (just below the middle of the gage) and stay that way until it cools off completely and is restarted. Then the cycle repeats. I have lost no coolant and it doesn't even seem hot but my heartrate goes up until the needle starts toward normal. I assumed the thermostat was sticking shut and bought a new thermostat and gasket and replaced it. The new thermostat looked exactly like the old one (180 degrees) which I believe I replaced last year. The temperature quirk did not change. It still moves to the hot position, stays there for 5 minutes and then starts down. Anyone have any experience like this? I don't believe it is the power supply for the gages because the oil pressure gage seems to behave normally. Could it be the gage or the sending unit? Thanks for your help.
