Mark A couple thoughts from my experience. I have a 24' enclosed Haulmark which I had a winch installed. I went with an Ramsey REP 8.5e winch, (8500lb) probably more than I needed, but I know it will pull into that trailer any it can carry. I believe it cost less than $400. I had a local guy install it directly to the frame of the trailer, so no chance of pulling out. It works well. I tie down the car with 4 straps, 2 in back around the rear axle, and 2 in the front around the K member. As far as the parking brake, I drive my cars in (I know it's a tight fit getting out). I put it on, but I don't think it's needed (with the 4 straps installed correctly, that car isn't going anywhere). MY $.02 worth. Jim Maiani Houghton Lake, MI 62 H From: Knutsen, Mark C Sent: Thursday, July 29, 2010 10:31 AM To: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [Chrysler300] Trailers and Winches I want to thank everyone who responded to my trailer e-mail last week. The trailer, although a little tight, should work out fine. I want to set up a winch system at the front of the trailer (to avoid the gymnastic act of getting out of my car.) I started to do the research into proper winch sizes, mounting, etc and realized I'm most likely reinventing the wheel here. If someone has a setup they are happy with and could forward information it would be very much appreciated. A general tow question. When you transport your car in the trailer, do most people tie down from the rear axle and front sub-frame? Also, do you engage the parking brake? Thinking about winching the car into the trailer I'm wondering about how to accomplish this without a squeeze along side of the car and a cane to push the pedal. Thanks in advance. Hope to show off the completed G and trailer in St. Charles!
