If you have to over tighten a belt, I would try belt dressing. The pulleys become polished and more likely to slip. Tip: Shift cables are prone to leaking. It is not easy to find that thin rubber tubing the factory used. Try shrink tube. Get a size just large enough to fit over the stem that inserts into the shift housing. Put a light coat of RTV and shrink the tube. It makes a good seal and is flexible. I was sure that one was tight enough. How about your belts, Mike? Also, anything new on the trans leak? I had the same problem several years ago on my K. I bought a used cable from a club member; it didn't look too good, but the leak stopped. I also have a belt that squeals when I rev it up. I put all new belts on it and still have the squeal. The K's going to the mechanic next Friday. He thinks it's the power steering belt. Maybe he can get it tight enough. I'll let you know how it turns out.
