An oversimplified explanation is that the difference in the high pressure 
pump is simply the spring, which you could actually change to in your 
current pump. The high volume pump is usually a stock configuration with a 
spacer plate and different rotor, which is also something you can do to your 
current pump.  If the new pumps aren't that expensive, then it isn't worth 
modifying your current pump. Sometimes the high volume pump interferes with 
frame clearance ; make sure you have 1/2" addition clearance .

The high pressure pump will give you more pressure at speed, but it will not 
produce high pressure when idling in gear.

A common thought on the high volume  pump is that you won't realize the 
extra volume unless you drill out the block and install the larger oil pick 
up tube also.
