Made in the USA by Motor Wheel is what was stamped on the one I just looked at in my spares pile. -----Original Message----- From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of C Bilter Sent: Monday, September 26, 2011 4:17 PM To: chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [Chrysler300] Motor Wheel Indeed the myth about KH is still alive and well. All one has to do is look at major auction house postings or dealer websites for virtually any '55-'61 letter car, as the "flippers" who consign most of these cars to auction seem compelled to equip each one with a set of reproduction Tru-Spoke or Roadster brand wire wheels, whether or not appropriate for the vehicle, and almost universally refer to them as "period correct Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels." My friend Mr. Lazenby is well known for his attention to detail and correctly identifies the supplier of Chrysler wire wheels as Motor Rim. Technically I think it was "Motor Rim and Wheel" at the time the original Chrysler wheels were produced. They also produced plain steel wheels. They are stamped "Motor Rim" on the inside of the rim. One internet source (300 Country) identifies the company as having been based in San Leandro, CA. On the other hand, Prudden Wheel in Lansing, MI became Motor Wheel Company in 1920 and was bought by Goodyear in 1964. Two different companies, or not??? I can't tell you how many times I see factory wire wheels listed for Chrysler products as KH. Believe it or not even personnel at Chrysler Historical has replied to inquires with KH as the original supplier. For those of you who know me you probably know my obsession for factory wires. I'm happy to say that six of the seven cars in our collection are proudly wearing MotorRim wires and each one of those cars has one in the trunk as well. Some are "original" and some restored with stainless spokes but they have become very expensive to restore. Quote: Motor Wheel Corporation of Lansing, MI, was one of the nation's most prolific wheel manufacturers. Vying for contracts with Detroit's factories saw the company making a full third of America's production-car wheels as early as 1934. Thirty years later, Motor Wheel had become a subsidiary of Goodyear Tire and Rubber. It was during Goodyear's ownership that Motor Wheel created an enduring classic--the Magnum 500--for the showroom set. Unquote. Just found it interesting that the Magnum 500's on my 66 rag might have been made or licensed by Motor Wheel. (Not Kelsey-Hayes!!)
