Hi Travis, I've rebuilt, successfully, many carbs including the 300F AFB. The only "bowls" in carburetors, including the Carter AFB, are float bowls and they are part of the aluminum casting, so won't rust and are not removable(not to say they could not corrode and be pitted), so I'm not sure what part you are referring to. Regardless, there most certainly are NO parts in a carb that don't matter. Your engine guy is mistaken on this one. Forward me a picture or drawing so I can help out more.
