On 2 of my 300Cs, 'not cranking' when battery etc seemed all fine, it was the neutral start switch on the trans failing, due to it's internal spring getting weak with use/age. If you go to the starter relay next to battery (follow power lead off battery), and pick out/find the wire (maybe light brown colour from memory, but I might be confusing colour with other old car) off it that runs down towards trans/starter. Next I think if you get a bit of elec wire and use that wire to ground the terminal that the wire you found comes from, then if you try cranking, if it now cranks, it is trans switch at fault. If it is, 2 remedies 1) get a big socket and see if it will screw in a turn or two more - this will put more tension on worn spring, and it may now work again? 2) better more permanent fix - buy a new trans safety switch, and install. Other elec switch that fails, but not as common on mine, is the one on intake manifold beside rear carb, sort near coil - you will see it by looking for little thing that has 2 wires on it. If you bridge the 2 wires at the switch, and the car mow cranks, do not bother looking for problems with trans switch, which usually requires car on jack or hoist to replace, so that why I suggest first you try wire grounding up top, ratrher than crawl under car. Christopher in Australia - our winter snow season, in the very small area our nation has any snow, has started near 4 weeks early, and 2 days ago we had in south our coldest day for 25 years, yet still only autumn here - "Global Warming" arguments now perhaps looking a bit shaky/dodgy here for now maybe the last 2 years?! yearsanderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx; Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > From: bleahy@xxxxxxxxxxx > Date: Sat, 26 May 2012 11:22:27 -0700 > Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] starter question > > sorry, billlllll's car is a 300 C 392 > On May 26, 2012, at 11:19 AM, Warren Anderson wrote: > > > > > Bill, > > > > What car is this? Check for voltage at the little clicky thing. Big wires, one should have battery voltage always and one is switched hot when starter is supposed to engage. Just because the clicky thing clicks is not enough to be sure power is going throough the thing. > > > > Warren Anderson > > Sedona,AZ > > > > keep in mind i am not a mechanic. > > > > ok, my starter won't turn over / the battery has charge / and the cables are clean. > > > > at the key it just clicks. > > > > what is the little box between the battery and the starter / does it go bad or kaput? > > > > any advise before i attempt to pull the starter out for inspection. > > > > i have checked all connections to be clean and tight in the series from battery to that little box gizmo to the starter...and they all seem solid. > > > > billlllllll leahy in kennewick washington > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > ------------------------------------ > > To send a message to this group, send an email to: > Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > > To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or > go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join and select the "Leave Group" button > > For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm > > For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylangYahoo!
