I always have my starters, generators, and alternators rebuilt. Two primary reasons. First, the ones you have may be the originals and they fit properly. Second, I have bought more bad rebuilds than good. Never again. In my area, and every placed I have lived, I have found a local re-builder where I can take my seemingly failed unit. They will first test the unit, in front of me, for performance to verify the need for repair and if it does need it I can have it back the same day if dropped off in the morning.
