Joe, I removed my rear window about 20 years ago, and it wasn't fun. I used many tools including a utility knife, a linoleum knife, and a heat gun. I carefully ran the knife between the rubber and glass to avoid cutting into the rubber. I also used the heat gun to soften the black goo, and made sure I separated the glass from the goo. All this while trying to salvage the trim clips. I reconditioned the rubber after removing it from the car, by brushing liberal amounts of Go-Jo hand cleaner on it using an old paint brush, and letting it soak for a few days in a closed washtub. I used the original Go-Jo, the smooth white stuff. Once a day, I'd brush on more Go-Jo to keep it fresh, then after about six days, I removed the rubber from the tub and hosed it off in the driveway. I wore gloves since the black residue from the Go-Jo stains the skin (and clothing) and is almost impossible to remove. It will also stain your concrete. I used the same brush to scrub off the remaining Go-Jo, making sure all the goo was removed from the grooves in the rubber. Once dry, the rubber is like new again, soft and pliable. I put the rubber aside for the next few years until I needed to reinstall the glass. Just before installing, I repeated the Go-Jo thing to re-soften the rubber. I just have a bad feeling about using a two-piece rubber seal on a car that just might get caught in a rain storm - like at Carlisle, or the local cruise-in. I need to remove the rear window on my 300H roject car. My concern is that over the years the window has been "sealed" nto the weather stripping pretty completely. I spent 2 hours with a fiber pry nd have more or less separated the weatherstrip from the glass on both the nside and outside of the car. I haven't tried yet to push it out yet but I'm fraid it is not going to come out easy. I think it is still fastened to the eatherstrip. So with all the sealant in it, I'm wondering if the weatherstrip is eusable? I'm wondering if the best course of action is to cut it to get the indow out. That is assuming there is a source of new weatherstrip. I really on't want to break the window. . I would appreciate any advice people are willing to offer.
