Thanks for all the great advice.  I saw in the Service manual about unlocking the weather strip but with all the sealant it is not easily separating.  Based on the emails, I'll keep working at it and see if a heat gun helps.  Sounds like the consensus is that the weather strip is reuseable.  I won't get to until the weekend but will let everyone know how it works.
