Hi We, too, had our gear box rebuilt by S&G this past summer on our '61 Windsor. Our problem was excessive play in the steering and never had any leaks, but we decided to have the box rebuilt as we continued to restore the car. Upon receiving the gear box and having it reinstalled, the car never made it out of the shop as fluid was pouring out of the bottom of the gear box. With the help of the service garage and photos, we established the problem was a rusted snap ring that came apart and popped the seal. S&G had not used a new snap ring to hold the seal in---they were supposed to have pressure tested, at their shop, before shipping our rebuilt gear box out back to us -- apparently they didn't. They, in turn, when informed by us and our mechanics at the garage with the help of photos, that they would send us the new replacement parts at no cost. But they would not cover the extra labor created by this faulty snap ring. After our mechanics reinstalled the new parts without having to remove the gear box again, we have had no further problems with the gear box. The Windsor now steers wonderfully. They can even give you options as to the "feel" you get when driving. They are life long Mopar people and will treat you right. I found a 1961 Chrysler Newport power steering box on line but I don't know if it will work for my G. Is it better to take apart what I have and just replace the seal(s) or do I need a whole new box!? I know Timo T., from Riverside, Ca., sells them but I don't know his number. The box for the '61 Newport that I came across on line is $585 with a $300 core deposit. Someone please give me a 'shoutback' and let me know and thank you kindly in advance!! > >> > >> Sincerely & 300ly, Brandt H J with a leaky G. > >> > >> [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > >> > >> > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > > To send a message to this group, send an email to: > > Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > > > > To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to bob@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or > > go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Chrysler300/join and select the "Leave Group" button > > > > For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm > > > > For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/search.htm#querylangYahoo!
