RE: [Chrysler300] Chrysler power steering box

>From memory there are TWO DIFFERENT OILS USED in pre 1958 300 steering boxes - re the 2nd of my 300C boxes I got rebuilt, I even remember putting the oil in top half before it/box put back in car - if you were careful, it did not run out the top of box as you slide it back thru opening in firewall - the top half oil WAS DEFINITELY NOT TRANS/RED TYPE OIL!!?

The Chrysler box fitted from 1958 onwards - 300D - was later ONE OIL ONLY TYPE - I think I am correct, and this 300D and later 300s box certainly only used one oil throughout,

I am familiar with the Chrysler Coxial type power steering. 1951 to 1958. I do not remember the gear section requiring different oil. The hydraulic oil returns from the gear housing. Would this not contaminate both? Granted it has been decades since my last hands on.

Yes, this is a 300C.

I have not been reading many posts on the site lately - too many cars and not enough brains/time - but pre 1958 300 power steering boxes I think had upper part with non red oil, but then after '58 new box was/is way simpler, and only used red oil in all ?!

Is the box here in a 300C - 1957 - as if it is, it is not the later simpler box used for many later 300s/Mopars?! And will havetwo oil types ??!

Christopher in Australia - autumn just began here, 1st last few nights are already like we might get a cold winter - hope not - gas prices about 160 c a litre for low octane, higher add another 12-15cents - ouch
