I believe the proper thing to do is to share your experience, being as fair, honest and objective as you can. I don't know the specifics of the other Forum case, but generally I believe it is very hard to successfully sue someone for telling the truth about an experience they had, or their opinion as to the quality of a product they used. In such a case, if someone does sue, it is also possible to counter-sue for bringing a frivolous lawsuit. The point is, while nobody wants to get involved in a lot of meaningless legal action, are you really willing to let the fear of it stifle your right to free speech, particularly when it might help a fellow member of the club? And when you think about it, you can find a review of almost every product or service you can buy these days on the web, many of which are completely negative. Think of eBay feedback, for example. My point is that it is extremely common for people to publicly state a negative view of something, yet almost never do you hear about a retaliatory suit in response. I do think it is important to relate the experience factually, and as accurately as possible, trying to avoid value judgements, and avoiding telling others not to go to this dealership. And you wouldn't want to say something like "I'm almost sure they put sugar in my tank when I wasn't looking," or something similar which you couldn't substantiate. Although anything is possible, I think it would be very hard for the dealership to sue you for honestly relating your experience (and probably unlikely, too, as that would create almost unimaginable negative publicity and bad will). So, I would say go ahead and tell us the nature of the experience, including information as to where it occurred, and let anyone reading draw their own conclusions with regard to using that facility. It may save someone from a similar experience, or perhaps someone might chime in saying their experience at the same place was great. The individual and the owners of the website were sued by the vendor. The problem was that even if the case was "iffy" and marginal, they had to hire a lawyer to defend themselves and settle (which they did) . Since then, they do not mention names at all-but usually you can send the author an email and find out who he's talking about. I woud not mention the individual's name.
