Cooper makes tires under multiple names. This was not uncommon in old days - Goodrich made Hood,
Brunswick, Miller, Gulf, and more - generally high quality
products warrantied by named companies not Goodrich. Same for all
the big 5 (Goodrich, Goodyear, Firestone, General, Uniroyal) in
the 1960's. But Cooper seems to have expanded the practice - I am pretty sure
they make tires distributed by TBC, Treadways, and maybe
others - in some cases, they may make certain lines and someone
else makes other lines within same brand. Again look for plant
codes and it will tell you who / where made. Among others, I believe some or all Multi-Mile, Mastercraft,
ElDorado, Cordovan, Sigma, Vanderbilt, Jetzon, Telstar, Tempra,
Dean, Hercules, Starfire, Vanderbilt, Big-O, and some Sumitomo
are made by Cooper or possibly for Cooper by Kenda or Avon or
??? As you say, some of these are sold by specific outlets only and
the outlet would be your warranty avenue. I can not address
quality or consistency of any of the side-lines as to possible use
of cheaper materials or lesser quality standards, but ultimately
the distributor (TBC, Treadways, etc.) should handle warranty if
your dealer will not. I would not expect Cooper to handle warranty on these side-lines, but if it says Cooper on the sidewall, they or any Cooper dealer should handle any warranty issues. As far as I know Cooper uses the side-lines rather than making unique Cooper-branded tires for sale at specific outlets. Goodyear and General, on the other hand, appear to make Walmart
specific sub-lines with Goodyear or General name - so maybe Cooper
does too. You mention original tires were 4 ply and replacements are 10
ply. I wonder if you got P275/65R16 by mistake instead of
LT275/65R16. That would clearly be a potential wear as well as a
safety / load capacity issue if you were putting on a 3/4 ton or 1
ton truck. Edward Mills
